I understand you are getting ‘0x’ error message on your HP DeskJet Printer. Don’t worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I’ll need a few more details:

Did you make any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you using genuine HP ink cartridge or refilled ink cartridges?

Have you tried to clean the ink cartridges or rollers?

Are you able to move the carriage freely?

In the meantime, let’s start off by performing a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

• Similar issue I had in the past. Does the carriage move at all? I’ve had to replace the unit when it came down to this error.

  I did some digging around, and from what I can tell, that error means that the carriage is jammed or that there’s a programming error. See if you are able to move the carriage manually (with power disconnected). As it also may be a programming error, you could try updating the firmware, depending on how far the printer gets in its boot process before showing the error.

  Given the age and cost of this printer, you might want to consider looking at replacement.

• There is zero information on my Partner Support site. The Deskjet printers are typically return to HP for service or replacement. So if you cannot find something jammed under the cartridge or the encoder strip is not dislodged or dirty(clear mylar with grid pattern printed on it that allows printer to determine location of head.), then replacement is likely a better choice than spending a lot of time on a cheap printer. If the mylar strip is dirty the best way to clean is to use a solution of a couple of drops of isopropyl alcohol and some water and gently wipe the strip. Do not use pure alcohol as this can cause the grid pattern to separate from the mylar.
