Bed heating failed

PRINTER HAITED

Please reset.

TEVO tarantula pro.

In this article I will share to your how to fix Bed Heating Failed Printer Halted after upgrade Marlin Firmare.

The Heater catridg or heating unit will continue to heat the heater block or bed. to read the heat on the unit, a thermistor is needed.

The microcontroller will controll the heater by value of thermistor. If not, the heat will continue to increase. This will overheating that allows for smoke, the filament will continue to flow and even a fire can occur.

One of the important features of the Marlin Firmware is the thermal protection which allows the firmware to catch a bad situation and turn off the heater before it gets too far.

Type of Thermal Protection Marlin Firmware

There are two thermal protections in marlin.

  1. If the temperature fails to rise sufficiently within a certain period of time (by default, 2 degrees in 20 seconds), the machine will shut down with a “Heating failed” error.
Usually this happens because Thermistor is disconnected, loose, or misconfigured, or the heater is disconnected.
  2. Monitor thermal stability. If the measured temperature deviates too far from the target temperature for too long, the engine will shut down with a “Thermal runaway” error.
Usually this happens because the temperature goes as far as up/down 10 °C.
Usually this happens because poor contact between thermistor and hot lead, poor PID adjustment, or cold environment.

More thermal protection options are in Configuration_adv.h. In most settings, this can be left unchanged, but must be adjusted as needed to prevent false positives.

How to solve this error?

Here I will share my experience and how to solve the Heating Failed Printer Halted Please restart error.

I am using the Anet A8 printer and this error occurred after I upgraded the Marlin firmware.

I started to print objects with a bed temperature of 95 degrees and Fan Print speed is 100%. So when printing on layer 2 or 3 (I forgot about layer), the error “Heating Failed Printer Halted Please Restart” appears on LCD.

Bed Heating Failed Printer Halted Marlin Firmware

After that I did an investigation on my anet a8 3d printer machine. So I get the cause of this warning popping up is the temperature suddenly goes 10 degrees lower than the specified temperature.

The reason is that the 100% fan speed will blow fast air into the BED, so the BED will lose heat slowly.

After I look on the LCD for long time, the BED temperature will decrease to 85 degrees from 95 degrees, after that “please restart” error is appears. The board cannot adjust to the 95 degrees.

Solution for my case.

I tune my printer to turn the fan by 50% by setting the fan value from 255 to 127.

After that, I don’t get this error again. Here I can be sure the printer has been working normally.

To be able to set the fan speed during the Print process, I set it in the Slicer software like cura or PrusaSlicer.

In the speed fan, I only set it to 50% and the printer was running smoothly.

Another solution.

Please check for other causes such as Thermistor is disconnected, loose, or misconfigured, the heater is disconnected, poor contact between thermistor and hot lead, poor PID adjustment, or cold environment.

When you are getting the error such as Heating Failed or Thermal Runaway, you might be scratching your head and think why the printer is so poor and not able to finish the print. But reality, the printer is actually protecting you from resulting in fires in some cases, which is called Thermal Runaway Protection. E1 stands for Hotend number 1, which is default hotend number for most of the printer. If you have more than a hotend, you may face E2 or E3 Printer Halted.

What is Thermal Runaway Protection?

Most modern printers such as Ender 3, Artillery Sidewinder or Anycubic Kobra series, they are equip with newer Marlin firmware which has Thermal Runaway Safety feature. The feature designed to stop the printing process whether it detects the thermal no longer in the safe range.

Thermal Runaway: E1 Printer Halted during Startup

In some cases, you might be getting thermal runaway during start of your printer, this means the thermistor already out of the temperature even heating is not here, normally acceptable range is from -15 to 260C. When it’s over 260C even during Start Up, it could means only 2 things, thermistor or motherboard need to be replaced. Heater Cartridge can be ruled out since this does not involve heating.

To identify which is the main causes,

  1. Unplug both bed and hot end thermistor from the motherboard
  2. Boot up the printer. If only the printer running fine, replace thermistor.
  3. If printer still showing the same error, replace motherboard & thermistor as thermistor port shorted.
    1. REMEMBER to throw the existing thermistor together otherwise you will be shorting your new board.

Some motherboard may have multiple thermistor port like SKR 1.4, but most of the time, when you shorted the port, all port will be malfunction together. The only solution is to change the board or even ugprade to a better board such as SKR 2 or SKR 3 which has thermistor short circuit protection.

Heating fail usually happens during heating up the nozzle, and also before the printing start. Heating Failed highly related to the heater cartridge because the nozzle unable to reach the expected temperature. To identify the issue, Go the Menu > Temperature and set the temperature to 200C

  • If temperature reached 190~195C and stay over there,
    • do PID tuning Step by Step Guide
    • If even after PID tuning still failed, replace heater cartridge.
  • If temperature is not moving, remain at the room temperature,
    • Heater cartridge broken, loose or disconnected, please do refer to the thermal runaway fixes above. Replace a heater cartridge is recommended.
    • Mosfet of the motherboard burnt. Motherboard replacement is required.
    • If your printer happen to have extra relay (PSU or module) for heating, check the relay if burnt. Try bypass the relay and see if heating up is working with direct current.

Creality Ender 3 3D printer is an affordable and reliable machine, but it can experience some technical issues. One of the most common errors is when you get “Heating Failed” with an E1 error code. This means that the hot end temperature has failed to reach its set target and needs to be addressed.

Knowing how to troubleshoot Ender 3 heating failed E1 will help keep your Ender 3 running smoothly for months to come.

Ender 3 heating failed E1

What does Ender 3 heating failed E1 mean?

The E1 heating failed on Ender 3 typically indicates a problem with the heating element or temperature sensor.

When the printer is unable to reach the target temperature for the heating element, it may display the «E1» error.

This can be caused by a variety of issues, such as a faulty heating element, a problem with the temperature sensor, or an issue with the power supply or wiring.

The most common causes of this error are:

  • Improper wiring or a faulty thermistor attached to the heat sink of the hot end;
  • Another possibility is that there may be a loose connection between the hot end and the mainboard or even a faulty mainboard;
  • If you are sure that all connections are secure, then it may be time to check if any firmware updates are available for your printer model;
  • Additionally, if you are using an incorrect power supply, then this could also lead to heating issues as the printer may not be able to provide enough power for proper operation.

It is important to troubleshoot the problem to determine the cause and take appropriate action to fix it.

Ender 3 heating failed printer halted please reset — Solutions

When your Ender 3 screen shows the message «Heating failed: E1 PRINTER HALTED Please reset» you can watch this video, it will show you how to check the hotbed or heating tube heating failure without a multimeter.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check the power supply and ensure that the printer is receiving sufficient power.

2. Check the wiring to the heating element and make sure it is secure and not damaged.

3. Check the temperature sensor and make sure it is securely attached to the heating block and connected to the mainboard.

4. If you have recently installed a new heating element or temperature sensor, try removing it and re-installing it to see if that resolves the issue.

5. Check the firmware settings on your printer and make sure the correct temperature settings are configured for your heating element.

6. If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to replace the heating element or temperature sensor. It is also a good idea to check with the manufacturer or a technical support representative for further assistance.

Conclusion

If you’re experiencing a heating failed error on your Ender 3 printer, take a moment to troubleshoot by checking all connections related to the hot end, updating firmware if necessary, verifying that you meet all power supply requirements, and ensuring that the filament spool is loaded correctly onto the extruder motor before printing again.

Taking these steps should help prevent future errors from occurring and keep your Ender 3 running smoothly in no time!
